Wood Types
Western Black Walnut
Known for its attractive appearance and durability, Walnut is a popular choice when a darker toned finish is desired. Its typically rich, chocolate brown color highlights the darker streaks and lighter sapwood. Its unique grain pattern will occasionally display a wavy or curly pattern which contributes to its visual appeal.
Oregon White Oak
A versatile and durable hardwood, White Oak typically presents a light to medium brown color with a sometimes lightly grayish or yellowish tint. Typically maintaining a straight grain it can also display interesting ray patterns, quilting and curl particularly when quarter-sawn.
Western Big Leaf Maple
Native to the Pacific Northwest, Big Leaf Maple displays color ranges from light to medium brown, sometimes featuring reddish or golden hues. While Maple boards can be very uniform, many of our clients are drawn to the boards and slabs that feature interesting patterns, quilting, birdseye and curl to add to its aesthetic appeal.
Eastern Maple
Similar to its ‘cousin’, Big Leaf Maple, Eastern Maple is a fine textured and close grained wood with a high level of durability. Typically more consistent in color and grain pattern, Eastern maple wood typically has a lighter, pale color with a creamy white to light reddish-brown hue. The sapwood and heartwood are not always clearly differentiated.
Pacific Madrone
A truly unique Northwestern hardwood with an incomparable look. Prized for it's warm cream, salmon and rich burgundy color range. While grain tends to be straight, with a very fine and even texture, many closely packed clusters of knots and swirled grain can and are often found providing beautiful variation in both color and grain pattern.

With its distinctive rich reddish-brown color, the grain of Cherry wood is typically straight, but it can also exhibit an interesting curling & wavy grain pattern. Its warm tones and attractive grain make it a popular choice for both traditional and modern designs. A characteristic that is often appreciated is its ability to beautifully deepen its color over time.
